O Cruel Fate
O cruel fate, what hast thou begotten me?
When sorrows come and my patience distilled
Bitterness imbues every part of me
And pain is with what my heart is so filled.
I’m told to wait, yet wait I can’t do,
I swear I’m dying a little each day.
All that is in me says: do what you want to,
Yet what I want now seems not the right way.
Time is a hellish device, I must say,
Its foul tricks and jests it doth play on me.
My love seems so close, yet so far away,
Makes me wait longer than eternity.
But there is one hope that only I know,
In death there is peace, to this I must go.
