My Angel
My angel appear'd in my dream last night
She was beauty that I had never seen
Her hair shown like gold, her smile glow'd bright
Stars for eyes, and her face was like a sweet cream
I couldn't move, I thought "Why is she here?"
Then I noticed that her smile was sad
My heart stopp'd beating, paralyz’d with fear
That the news she had to share must be bad.
She said, "My darling, you are standing still.
Don't stop. Get up; move. Don't neglect your life!"
Her words cut deeper than blades ever will
I've been fill'd with self-pity, sloth, and strife.
My angel came to my rescue last night,
She gave me the courage to set things right.
